Trauma Counselling
Trauma-focused therapy uses different tools and a different pace to ensure safety. Talking about trauma and its effects can be distressing and i'm here to make that more manageable to do. I support complex and episodic post traumatic stress, using an integrative approach.
What is trauma-focused therapy?
Trauma therapy is different from many other types of counselling because trauma affects both the mind and the body. As a trauma-informed therapist providing online trauma therapy, I help clients understand how trauma can shape emotional responses, relationships, and nervous system patterns. Psychoeducation is often an important first step, because learning how trauma works can reduce confusion and self-blame.

Some people come to therapy after a single overwhelming experience, which is sometimes referred to as episodic trauma. Others have experienced repeated or long-term difficulties such as childhood neglect, unstable relationships, or chronic stress. This is often described as complex trauma. Understanding the difference can help explain why certain patterns show up in relationships, emotions, and reactions to stress.

Trauma-focused therapy often uses approaches designed specifically for trauma processing and nervous system regulation. Depending on the person, this might involve Internal Family Systems therapy, or somatic approaches, as well as other trauma-informed modalities. In trauma counselling, the goal is not to relive painful experiences, but to help your nervous system gradually process and integrate them so they have less control over your present life.
